Yeah, that’s jealousy. I can sort of understand her frustration. Zaphira was ‘chosen by fate’ not merit, and isn’t really a competent leader, and doesn’t really act like a leader should in Ivy’s eyes. Ivys the oldest, so she likely feels it should be her birthright by normal rules of succession, and because she’s the most intelligent. That said, she’s rude and obnoxious and if her definition of “acting like a proper ruler” is imprisoning and executing people who insult her, then it’s a good thing she isn’t in charge.

Once again, Ivy is not doing herself any favors here. In her attempt to bait Zaphira out, all she’s doing is show how screwed up her definition of a “proper ruler” is. To go back on how Ivy would be a terrible queen, she’s painting the picture of a ruler that would literally be willing to either sentence someone to rot in the dungeon for 5 years or execution all because that person just so happened to look at her a certain way that she found unacceptable, even in the possible scenario where they meant no ill will by it. Not what you would call a proper ruler at all, don’t you think? On the other hand, this conversation with Ivy is only emphasizing all the more to me that while Zaphira’s kindness is one of her greatest strengths, it also unfortunately highlights one of her biggest flaws. She’s too soft! (Figuratively not literally) That “How dare you!” that Cornelia shouted to Ivy should be what Zaphira should be saying to her. She is literally insulting Shen and Zaphira’s choice to marry him, all because of his background as a former slave, as well as questioning her authority as the queen of Oasis, all of which she should be vehemently defending right now, regardless of Ivy being family or not, yet here she is just standing there with that sad look on her face just letting her sister just steamroll over her with her tirade. (Seriously Zaphira, that’s your fiancée she’s trashing right now, say something!) Sure, Zaphira may not be the best ruler that Oasis has ever seen, but at least she isn’t nearly as cruel of one as Ivy would’ve, and she’ll have Shen to help her keep the kingdom in order after the wedding. Honestly, if I was Zaphira, I would’ve given Ivy her wish and sent the guards in to remove her from the royal bath and lock her in her room for a few hours to cool off and think about all she said to me. If you’re going to act like a bratty child all because of the person I’m going to marry the next day, then I’m going to punish you like the bratty child you are until you decide to grow up. Again, Zaphira should absolutely be standing up for herself against the BS that Ivy is spouting towards her and I hope she does confront her about her current behavior before the wedding starts. Also, yes Ruby, who would’ve thought that someone that is barely half your height and significantly skinnier than you wouldn’t be able to handle being suplexed against a solid stone floor so hard that it cracked. 🤦 No matter what Ivy has to say about him, making sure your husband can still walk and function properly takes high priority.

Aaaah now I get it, Ivy has some resentment against Zaphira for basically being given a a “perfect” life by fate, while most likely Ivy likely had to work far too much to get where she is, I wouldn’t entirely call it jealousy but it’s something like it.
