I don't think Alex and Hank are being critical just because they want to be mean. I think they are just suggesting that Kara is taking on more than she can handle and needs to train first. It would be like Oliver taking on Ra's al Ghul after only 1 year on the island, or Barry taking on the Reverse Flash during his first week as the Flash. They would both lose, and it would be foolish to insist they keep fighting these villains without more training. Not that Oliver and Barry always make the right decisions in this aspect, but that's why their teams criticize them for making these decisions. Felicity criticized Oliver for fight Ra's al Ghul and Barry is criticized by his team over a going after a few metahumans recklessly. As Alex said, she might have superpowers, but so do her enemies. Training and planning will help her beat her enemies. Oliver trained for 5 years before returning to Starling City and Wells had Barry training throughout season 1.
