✨Lately, I’ve been painting a lot of hairstyles, fashion illustrations, and expressive portraits — all inspired by the elegance and complexity of feminine beauty. There’s something captivating about the way a simple gesture, a glance, or a textured braid can tell a whole story.

This portrait was created in the most recent class I took on hairstyle painting.

I’ve always been the kind of artist who jumps between subjects — one week it’s landscapes, the next it's faces or flowers. But I’ve realized this variety is actually what strengthens my work. Each study, each experiment, adds something new to my visual language. It teaches me to see more, notice more, and paint more deeply.

These pieces are like little windows into the moods, details, and inspirations that eventually come together in my more complex works.💫

I recently got new brushes for testing, and I love them (by the way, the whole painting with braids was painted with just this one brush), but this is a story for another post😊

Let me know which one speaks to you the most!

My favorite is the braid from behind… these are all beautiful and this brush- magic.

I’ve been intrigued by your catalog of paint samples… did you create the small cards you use? What info do you put on the cards? I’ve been thinking of indexing my paints because I see how beneficial it is to pick up your available reds for instance and select the right shade for your projects…

Hi Christine, yes, I created the swatch cards from leftovers of my watercolor paper. You're absolutely right, they are very useful! And I highly recommend to make them for your own colors. There is a color swatch on one side and I put the color name, the brand and pigments on the other side of the card. There are a few approaches to keeping color swatches (some artists have a sketchbook with swatches). I describe my approach of creating swatch cards in this video https://www.patreon.com/posts/why-every-artist-124304680?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

Thank you for the info!
