Book to read: The Garden of Seven Twilights by Miquel de Palol (Paid Link)
An intriguing contemporary novel written by a Catalan poet and architect about a group of characters stuck in a mansion waiting out an atomic alert in Barcelona in 2025. Found this one by way of the photographer Mike Vos @studiomikevos
Ej, Taku Mam Pasiju by Billy BarmanInspired by Meyrink's 'The Golem', I went looking for Czech music, and found this energetic stomping version of a Czech folk song.
A scarcely believable morbid fashion showVery impressive show done by Carol Christian Poell. Found via @somewhere.media
David Lynch interviewed on French TV, shirtless, covered in blood (?), with a naked woman emerging from a cave behind himHighly entertaining. Found via @feelguide
Mississippi Fred Mcdowell documentary from the 1960sGreat footage of one of the coolest Hill Country Blues musicians. Here's his version of "Baby Please Don't Go", originally by Big Joe Williams, with Mcdowell speaking in the beginning about, among other things, using a beef bone for a guitar slide when he was growing up. My favorite track by Mcdowell is his version of Someday Baby Blues originally written by Sleepy John Estes. Recently had the best fried chicken of my life at this southern buffet found by my Mom: The Old Country Store, right off Highway 61 (the highway Mcdowell is singing about in the doc above), owned by Mr. D, pictured below - A friendly guy who likes to serenade his customers. My wife was also courageous enough to try the hog neck in the buffet. Though it's not the prettiest dish you've seen, it turned out to be one of the greatest things we'd ever tasted. If you're ever in the area, you've got to check this place out.
