Hello All!

Who doesn't love Cher? Strange episode this one, the sexual assaults seemed so underplayed. Leaning into the wild story and people thinking they must be crazy. I'm glad we got that scene at the end of the episode, I had the stick figure meme in my head when saying, 'now kiss', iykyk haha. Side note, I love me a southern accent - enjoy!

Much love

Dakara x

By this time The X-Files was a huge show Worldwide and could do about anything it wanted. Well is sure does it here, a twist of the Frankenstein story, with shades of The Elephant Man and Hunchback Of Notre Dame thrown in, and also against a backdrop of Cher's music, her film Mask and The Jerry Springer Show thrown in too, again that show was just crazy at the time. Some fans didn't like this one, but I loved in it. Shot in black and white to give it more atmosphere and just the most insane story, but it just all works so well. The Black and White scenes reminded me of Better Call Saul when Jimmy was in Omaha, and it use to go back to that story, the framing almost seemed the same when Mulder and Scully are looking at the man sweeping. I also keep getting Agent Cooper vibes from Twin Peaks when Mulder goes into any Diner. Love the ending of this when he is brought out to dance to Cher, and Mulder and Scully dance too. Really enjoyable one this proving this show could go anywhere with it stories.

Never my cup of tea, I've never re-watched it.

Koz

I had been curious to see you with this one.

Great reaction to a very unusual episode. First thing, the angry mob did not have pitchforks. Torches, yes, but no pitchforks. The whole thing was in the form of a comic book, so it was supposed to be over the top. It had all everything, a stereotypical "hick" town, a mysterious(mad?) doctor, a local mystery, and a monster, that turned out to be a frightened, misunderstood man. The monologue he gave at the end to tie everything together was brilliant. His appearance gave me Elephant Man vibes. Mulder got the story of Frankenstein wrong though. While the creature does escape at the end, the "companion or bride", was started by Doctor Frankenstein, but destroyed before it was completed. The ending at the Cher concert was just chefs kiss.

Great reaction!

I can’t possibly explain to you how happy I was watching this episode when it first aired. Can’t wait until to see the follow-up episode “The Post-Modern Dakareus” in season 8. Your hair was the star of this reaction.

I love this episode. So happy you did too. And guess what? We're in great company. Gillian Anderson listed this as one of her favourite episodes on the show as well! A few others that she's placed, 1x08 - “Ice” (The one in the arctic base with the alien worms) 2x20 - “Humbug” (The one with the circus sideshow performers) 3x20 - “Jose Chung’s from Outer Space” (I think you'd remember this one XD) With more yet to come 😉 Scully singing to Mulder the last episode is also among her favourite memories of working on the show.
