The reason Superman/Kal-el's parents didnt leave is that the council told Jor-el that if they (mom and dad) were to evacuate it would cause a panic and that they would then be placed into the Phantom Zone (the flying mirror). So he agreed that he and his wife wouldn't leave, but not his son.

I wish y’all watched the extended cut of this one.. it explains how Jor-El created the Phantom Zone and if he tried to leave Krypton he would be banished with Zod in it.. also, more of Superman’s powers are shown in a scene where Luthor tests his powers with fire, bullets and ice.. there’s a lot more, plus the girl on the train was Lois as a kid, and her parents are the original Superman & Lois from the black and white series

Fun fact.. Christopher Reeve pushed for his Superman to cameo in the 1989 Batman movie with Michael Keaton but Tim Burton was adamantly opposed because his Batman would be a darker interpretation than Adam West so the tones would be different.. but a post-credit scene would’ve been cool if that was a thing back then.

There is NO other Superman for me other than Christopher Reeve. NONE. I honestly do not care for all the other super hero / comic book movies. I once saw Reeve on a late night talk show in the 80’s telling a charming story about when his bike was stolen and how he chased down the thief. I won’t give it away but it had a funny ending. I miss him. I miss Gene Hackman too.

YES! The OG! And two of John Williams’ best themes are in this score. ❤️🎶 Nerd Alert! The first actor to play Superman on screen was Kirk Alyn in (1948), then it was George Reeves in 1951, who also played him in the TV series (1952-1958). But Christopher Reeve will ALWAYS be THE Superman for several generations (but we Gen-Xers claim him 😂)

Nerd #2.. the train scene in this movie, the little girl is Lois in an extended scene and her parents on the train are Kirk Alynn and the actress that played his Lois Lane on TV

I had forgotten that!! I also forgot Larry Hagman’s cameo and that the soldier hitting the button was John Ratzenberger before he was Cliff Clavin. Good stuff!

Interesting fact.. this movie was filmed as a big movie in 2 parts, however, because there was a falling out with the producers and director, the movies were split and Superman2 came out years later.. plus, despite the director filming 70% of part2, a new director came in and repurposed that footage along with reshoots which he filmed. The version of Superman2 that was in theaters is a different movie than what was supposed to be.. years later, when Reeve died, the original footage for part 2 was found in London so the original director who did this movie, came back and put all the footage for his cut together, it was released on DVD/Blu-ray dedicated to Christopher Reeve, it’s called “Superman II The Richard Donner Cut”.. both versions are good, but the Donner Cut fits more with the tone of the first movie.. the other directed, Richard Lester, went on to do part 3, then the producers did Supergirl 1984 before losing the rights to someone else who did part 4

Also, many of the actors from StarWars are in the Superman movies, Gold Leader from StarWars is a prison guard in part 2, and Luke’s gunner in Empire plays an astronaut in part2 also, and of course John was in Empire also as a rebel major..
