From v7c16: A Man has Three Masks

The road on the way to the sect was similarly paved of metal, gleaming in the sun. It was quite long, but I supposed Sects did like a bit of distance between them and mortals.Soon, however, we saw a silver gleam. I blinked, and squinted toward the horizon, where a large and incredibly shiny wall rose up out of the ground. It was perfectly smooth and reflected the light like a mirror. It had a gentle, graceful curve to it, and it looked… oddly futuristic. Or like what a 1980s vision of the future would be, with chrome everywhere.I concentrated on it, and the world told me what it was.Iron 72%, chromium 18%, nickel 9%, gold 1%, no impurities. Perfect crystalline lattice. Height thirty feet. Thickness ten feet. Depth twenty feet, connected to a plate of tungsten that has only a few basal cracks to let in spring water. Circumference is nearly equal to 1/1000 of the planet's circumference, but is 1% too large my mind supplied, and my mouth dropped open. What the—it was chrome?! And connected to an underground tungsten plate? I was pretty sure they didn't call those metals that here. It looked like my analysis super power was using my own memories to fill the gaps, so I would understand it. And what was that composition? Wasn't that stainless steel? They had a thirty foot tall and ten foot thick wall made out of pure stainless steel, further reinforced by Qi. The ratios were all divisible by nine, the number of longevity, with one percent gold, a "pure" metal to further strengthen the Qi reinforcement… though I could tell most of the reinforcement was gone. Only dregs of it remained, though those dregs still made it strong enough I was pretty sure it could bounce tank rounds. The end result was a perfectly circular chrome ring sitting atop a hill, reflecting the light of the sun and turning the brown grasses around us gold.

Thanks for the art CasualFarmer! I hope you're painting many figurines on your break!

Dang, it’s even better than I imagined

Mtn dew in my CPAP

Behind that wall are approximately 50 square miles of land

I think this might not be the case because the shiny side is convex, but wouldn't there be a risk of the reflected light focusing and accidentally lazering something on the inside?

Chuck Haeberle

Gonna be blunt here: The wall is chrome, not glass. It should be very clearly a wall, and very clearly reflecting the landscape and sky. It's chrome not transparent aluminum.

Tijay Arnie

Oh, I didn't realise it was *that* reflective

Ian Burns

I think that's a case of reality being unrealistic. I giant mirrored bubble will mostly reflect the sky, especially one where the part near the ground is also angled upwards.

Ian Burns

No, it would need to be a lens for that AND you'd need to actually be outside the lens. Now, Cultivators can tell physics to take a hike. And redirect forces rather than neutralizing them, as we see with Jin's movement technique in the side story. There he points the massive rebound force, that should only be in the direction of the Earth's rotation, wherever he wants with amazing effect. So the right Formation probably could turn that whole convex surface into an impossible magnifying glass and roast something. But it won't happen by default.

Ian Burns

Beautiful. I'm so glad that when they went Land God there were able to preserve the harsh beauty of the landscape.

Slasher12 .Slasher

Beautiful. Wayy different from how I imagined it. I kinda thought it would be like a paneled sky scraper look with metal paneling But man this looks like one of those one way mirror super rich people glass houses. Super Cool 😎

Tani

I bet that wall gets HOT

Critical Hit

that looks a lot taller than 30 feet

Kaladin

I'd hate to be the kids that have to polish it and keep it clean. Very pretty for tourists though.

Aaron W. Smith

somehow, somehow, I thought that it was going to be more like a matte or brushed metal finish. the mirror finish is prettier, but, also it must make it verrrrrrry easy to find, even if it is easy to defend.

Chuck Haeberle

Sure. But the reflection doesn't line up. The clouds continue through the wall, like it is glass.

Alex Ingraham

What does, "but is 1% too large" mean?? I don't remember any spatial shenanigans...

Rafiq Raiden

Nah the weakened formation probably still has that function

Ormus Von Orbulon

While genuinely understanding your criticism, and without going into the intensive, intricate mathematics, -- it yet remains a wonderful portrait that does, indeed, invoke and satisfy the imagination...yes? Good enough, yes? 🧐

Gojira

that’s way more impressive than I thought when I first read the description. I wasn’t thinking of the reflectiveness of the metal.

Carl Dooley

eh. I thought the carriage would be... BIGGER, like a cylinder gypsy type the length of an RV - the pictured one isn't big enough for everyone it was carrying. Also, the Steel circle? it was the size of a manor, not a CITY

Adrian Araujo

The emergency infusions of art make the wait bearable, we may survive until we get feed with SHI. Jokes aside good one, i hope someone makes one about the town which also looked interesting.
