An announcement was just made on D&D Beyond where the whole System Reference Document 5.1 has been published under a Creative Commons license.

If you don't know what this all means, then please read this Gizmodo article.

This is a truly momentous occasion, where the community's outrage has changed the decisions of a company. I did not expect Wizards of the Coast to see the light and to not only walk back their intended changes, but to use an even more generous license. Now I again have hope that the next edition of D&D will be equally accessible to third-party publishers.

Thank you to everyone who made their voices heard and for standing strong against the tide. One could say the D&D community has won this with a couple of natural 20s on their Insight and Intimidation checks. I expect WotC realised that having their core audience not only search for TTRPG alternatives, but also boycot the D&D movie would be pretty bad.

Also, welcome to everybody who has started using my sheets in the last couple of weeks in search for a D&D Beyond alternative.

Many people have applauded the idea of me making character sheets for Pathfinder 2nd edition. I'm sorry to say that this is now even more unlikely. I acknowledge that PF2e is probably a more mechanically sound system that is very close in feel to D&D and that it would be a lot of fun to play. However, after playing D&D 3.5e for about 14 years I can't see my group going back to a Vancian magic system or giving up bounded accuracy (although I won't say never).

More news will come when I have new content to share with you.

This is great news for everyone! I was just joking with a mate, after he said ‘I’ll still not be buying official DnD stuff for a while’ that to be fair, for the longest time we didn’t anyway and used MPMB to fill the gaps in our knowledge and character creation. So thank you for being an affordable and easy to use character creator and resource hub for the last few years.

Dear, when will the uas of dnd one be inserted in the sheets? I agree. I tried but isn't possible go back to dnd 3.

I am so happy that they are leaving 1.0a alone. I do worry they will still try do something to it in the future, but for now, we won.

Talk about rolling a 20 on your death saving throw!

I guess I can delete my notes for what I wanted to say in that survey!

Gonna pour one out tonight for all those YouTubers who rallied the troops.

Brian Pennington

i'm open to forgiveness, but i'll remember they tried it

While I can see why people would want a Pathfinder character sheet like this, pathbuilder already fulfills that niche.

I don't think this is the end of the OGL story. WotC has invested a lot on money into a VTT for DnD One and you bet they are going to make sure they do everything in there power to make sure that folks only play it on their platform. Rest assured that One will not be under OGL 1.0a but under some new license.

Good point, I wasn't aware of that website until someone pointed it out to me recently. I have never really had a reason to go search for it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let's hope that they learned their lesson from this episode of fan outrage... but I share your view that it is likely they'll try to pull this again. However, they are working hard to assure the fans that OneD&D is planned on being an extension of 5e and not a new edition and will be under the same license. Time will tell.

This isn't the first time WotC/Hasbro has tried something like this and I don't trust them to not try again at some point in the future. I do hope that you'll at least try the Beginner Box for PF2 and see how it feels. Your sheets are worth the money and I think they'd work better than Pathbuilder overall.

From what I've heard and read, you can not copyright or trademark rules (which is why you see clones of so many games). So it might be part of a non-issue anyways. Then again, who wants to go against Hasbro: it will cost you money, time,...

Why can I no longer download an integrated record sheet?
