Creative writing, including game writing, is like getting ketchup out of a bottle.

When you first start, the bottle is full, and the ketchup comes out easily. It may splatter a bit, covering a bigger area than you need so some of it is wasted, but it's not a lot of work.

Then there's a nice middle ground, where you get the ketchup you need, where you need it, with just a little shaking or squeezing.

If you keep going without refilling the bottle, it takes more and more work to get the ketchup out. In time, what used to get out big glops can't do more than than spatter a bit on your plate.

There's still ketchup in there. You can SEE it, smell it. But it's stuck to the sides of the bottle.

It takes ten times as much work to get any out, and you're back to being pretty scattershot.

But if you CAN'T take time to go refill, and you NEED more ketchup to pay the mortgage?

You can do it.

It's just exhausting and inefficient.
