Thoughts on HSR connecting Chicago to the Northeast Corridor? Might be a longshot, but I feel that there's merit connecting Chicago to the East Coast, and then having Chicago having further (lower speed) connections within the rest of the Midwest.

Thanks for the responses Alan. Sorry for hogging the Questions -queue! Q: Have you seen or participated in any examples of informal "Tactical Urbanism" that actually stuck? As in, the local neighborhood got onboard after seeing the effects, and actually fought to keep those (often temporary) Tactical changes in a more formalized manner? And related: Have you seen any examples of Tactically-deployed permeable mid-block or intersection blockades? Particularly any which have lasted? For context, I have no hope that my city government and NIMBY-captured community orgs will ever act to truly halt the dangers, costs, and negative health effects of automobile-dominated street design, but I know where I can find some "free" concrete barricades to obstruct a lot of rat running my local neighborhood.
