As for building up a mercury resistance, the tl;dr is that it shouldn't work; long form is: The immune system could only be trained to go after pretty large molecules (usually surface molecules of bacteria, viruses, etc), so it only works with poisons that are themselves complex molecules, which Mercury isn't. [Sidenote: A good example of a poison that *is* would be the protein-based poisons of some snakes; we actually get snake antivenom by putting the venom into horses, having them produce antibodies against the venom and then filtering those antibodies out of their blood (which is exactly as complicated as it sounds and is why antivenoms are so difficult to stockpile).] The other option for building up a resistance would be to train the liver to be more efficient at producing enzymes and stuff that break the poisons down - the liver of an alcoholic for example is much better at breaking down alcohol than the liver of a nondrinker. However, since elemental Mercury isn't something that can be broken down to become nontoxic (or at least less toxic), this way of building up a resistance won't work either.

All elements should have a boiling point, we know it for basically all elements other than the synthetic ones towards the end of the periodic table - Mercury actually has a pretty low boiling point, which shouldn't be surprising given that its melting point is so low that it is liquid in room temperature conditions.

Here is my thought on White lady. She is getting rid of merchents to hinder trade in kingdom when locust swarm attacks farms and food again. Then they can swoop in and sell grain for crazy amount or something in that line
