Hey all, Jay here!

Here we have the finished version of Parachiel, Angel of Blossoms.

In an earlier WIP post, Pete talked about the idea of patrons among “normal people,” and the kinds of sects or religious cults that exist within Angelarium’s world.

When I first joined the project as a sounding board for Pete, one of the most compelling ideas for the TTRPG was the concept of playable angels—the Watchers. Pete had a strong narrative vision that was central to the worldbuilding, but from an RPG and systems perspective, felt a bit hard to grasp.

I kept circling back to few central questions:

If Watchers are gods among men… how could they start at level 1, and why?

Wouldn’t the risk of accidentally forming a cult make them “kill-on-sight” in major cities?

Why would human PCs ever travel with a Watcher PC—and vice versa?

How do we make watcher's grounded enough that interplayer social interactions don't degenerate into an intrinsic social hierarchy?

These were the kinds of questions I kept circling back to in our discussions, and without a clear example, none of the answers fully landed for me.

But then I saw Parachiel.

Seeing a Watcher depicted in a more humanized, grounded way made everything click. Suddenly, the concept felt tangible—not just narratively, but as something that could actually work at the table.

We’ll be talking more about Watchers as a playable race in the TTRPG soon. For now, I just wanted to use this finished piece as a way to tease at one of the bigger ideas behind it's completion.

Much Love, Jay
