We return to the podcast circuit in 2026 to examine Scott Galloway: NYU professor, prolific podcaster, and, more recently, part-time life coach for struggling young men.

Joining him on an episode of Modern Wisdom with Chris Williamson, we are invited into one of the few remaining forbidden conversational spaces: men, masculinity, and men’s problems. You may have been misled by the relentless popularity of Joe Rogan, Modern Wisdom, The Tucker Carlson Show, Triggernometry, The Diary of a CEO, Huberman Lab, and several dozen adjacent properties into thinking these topics are already discussed at length, on a near-weekly basis. Alas, this turns out to be a dangerous illusion.

In reality, even mentioning men’s issues requires an extended ritual acknowledgement of women, failure to perform which risks immediate cancellation. Braving these cultural headwinds, we wade into manly dialogue about masculinity, sex differences, and male malaise. Along the way, we touch on evolutionary psychology, decorative scholarship, the anthropological wars of Man the Hunter, the optimal dosage of whingeing, and whether making boys learn French verb conjugations qualifies as a human rights abuse.

So get your notebooks ready for some important notes from two of the most masculine men in the modern male podcasting space on proper men-manship.

Lold at "there's dozens of us"

Lucy

I have slight pushback to his take on service work. In the US, many service workers are paid shit wages and have no social safety net or job protections. I think that makes it hard sometimes to find dignity.

Idan Ca

OMG Linda you QUEEN!!

Scott Walkers Ghost

When Scott is talking about speaking at a conference: SG "You're allowed to acknowledge that the whole world should be run by women". This is similar language to what CW was using earlier that you were ridiculing, though Scott's overall take here is more nuanced and he does add some disclaimers, still I think this language is a bit conspiratorial and anti-establishment Overall I feel you two are adding nuance to Scott's takes that he should have added himself. He is not really making clear points, he mumbles for a bit and I'm left wondering what he meant. If a conservative person was listening to him I feel they could come away believing what they want, like on the section on young girls been more obedient.

Lucy

Question for folks not in the US/UK, is the young men are in trouble discourse as loud in your countries as it is here?

Damian McCarron

Today I’m telling all my chairs I love them, life is short, you never now when they’ll make their last squeak. Thanks Linda!

Joanna Mulvaney

now i am an old hag who grew up in the times when “girls are getting the same gcse results as boys, how do we save our failing working class white boys????” was a conversation every summer. then i went to work in various research and research adjacent positions where i read papers and grant applications and went to seminars where every project about anything in women was preceded by disclaimers about how learning what the symptoms of for example stroke, are in women was worth looking into because some men also respond in unexpected ways, my patience for men whining that there is also now a disclaimer that name checks women when talking about mens issues is short. also fucking annoyed that somehow a subset of men keep asking why nobody is fixing their loneliness problem or mentoring them etc. er guys, you are supposed to help each other not complain until your mum (or every random woman) noticed and does it for you.

A.L.L

I'm only on 1.49 mins 😅 but are all these studies about impact of relationships and marriage on men Vs women only ever about hetrosexual people?!

Idan Ca

Hats off to Matt for the culture references. Loved the nod to ‘player of games’.

Rich F

Adding my applause to the ovation: Linda Sears, your lament for Old Squeaky is tremendous.

Nancy Hale

Williamson’s shtick around respecting and elevating women who become mothers and child caregivers is so indicative of the bind women have dealt with for a century or more. It’s about being judged by both men and women for the choices an individual woman makes in following one path or another other regarding motherhood. I’m afraid I don’t expect Williamson to understand this.

Ben Godek

The studies they talk about where men in relationships are doing better-how good are they at distinguishing cause and effect? Because I can imagine that having serious substance abuse problems makes it harder to maintain a romantic relationship.

Joanna Mulvaney

these bro podcasts feel like being trapped in grand rounds when the ent residents present their project on power poses and why they biologically work. my sympathies to matt and chris having to listen to all of this.

Maytree

So far, I'm in sync almost entirely with Prof Matt.

Roland Weber

Linda. what a wonderful and tragic lament! 🥹 Makes me wonder what kind of world we live in, when trusty old chairs, after years of dutiful service, are treated like trash just because they break.

Mr Leddy

I must be drunk because I am almost convinced that women are better than men at giving birth. I need to check my testosterone levels urgently!

George

Chris Williamson is a perfect example but so many of these Manosphere and thought leader figures just need to spend less time online.

George

FFS. Posted my last comment right before the big game hunting but. Why oh why oh why oh why? Chris Williamson is honestly losing sleep over misrepresentation in big game hunting involvement data? Give me strength

DJM

Do you (Chris/Matt) wonder if Chris W is playing any of the male grievance up for his audience? It seems like in private, he is more thoughtful, reasoned (eg not having trump or showing Tate interviews) and frankly vulnerable (see his recent health issues) than he projects. Wrong?

Brian Gough

A cliff hanger!? You bastards. Listening to this was a breeze compared to Stefan Molyneux – which I’ve yet to finish; I was flogging myself so hard I began to draw blood.

Dominic Horner

Genuinely happy single man in his 40s here. Gotta say, I’m getting pretty tired of having stats quoted at me saying I would live longer or be better off if I got married. Cool data point. I am still fine. Who cares?

Linda Sears

For the record, Scott Walker’s Ghost added the synthesizers for the Ol’ Squeaky’s Lament, so props to him! And, yes, the squeaky chair sound effect was created by the chair my husband likes to sit on at night, playing video games while I’m trying to sleep.

Loved this one! Just a picky point: Helen Lewis endorsed that very long article about diversity hiring from Tablet magazine ("The Lost Generation") and Chris brings it up here, briefly but seemingly uncritically. The basic idea of the piece is that the DEI push has made a significant negative impact on job options for white men in many industries, but especially media, and that this has led to a backlash. It used a bunch of anecdotal data (including the writer's personal tale of woe) as well as some surveys from a couple dozen firms. Matt Bruenig looked at much more robust data from the US census and showed (in a few paragraphs) that there's been little change at all, big picture and small. The more depressing fact is that the DEI stuff hasn't done much re: actual hiring practices, but has generated grist for so many right wing mills. https://www.peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/12/17/what-does-the-census-data-say-about-the-lost-generation/ Anyway, always good to check these things out more thoroughly. Helen is great, but I've noticed that she has a contrarian's tendency to buy into some of these narratives. And now Chris can join her and Ann Coulter as folks who have promoted this article uncritically.

Is there not a correlation vs causation issue with the men and marriage claims? Maybe the traits that make men more likely to be successfull also make them more likely to get and stay married. How do we know being married is causal at all? The gender asymetry could stem from slight differences in sexual selection preferences. I.e Women like men that have their shit together, have good jobs are on a good career path etc..

Frances goulart

This taste of Galloway is not sufficient to get the awful oeuvre of the man. He talks non stop about money on his shows and how godsmacked good he is at navigating life but how perceptive ( soft?) he is at the same time. I bet his boys hate him! Just an outsider ( me, who has raised boys) guess!

Sam Wells

There was context to the vasectomy van at DNC. Roe vs Wade was overturned in the US. Abortion bans are now decided state by state. Some states made abortion for any reason illegal. The point of the van was to say “step up, men. If you don’t want children get a vasectomy”. Recovery is way shorter than a hysterectomy. And it’s more legal on average than an abortion.

Alex H

I'm just under halfway through, and Iiked your discussion of women now outnumbering men at university. Unless they're mainly studying STEM at top unis, it's not obvious to me that women are getting ahead by pursuing more bachelor and masters courses than ever! Also, I love when Matt gets triggered by Chris on statistics (see the bit about murder rates of women by men).

jodcr

Does it ever become apparent why Scott Galloway did this interview? He doesn’t seem particularly interested in Chris Williamson’s manosphere/culture war talking points. Thus far, it seems like Galloway is trying to use narrow points of agreement to redirect the conversation onto his own pet topics and Williamson isn’t letting him.

Alex H

Glad you correctly noted that Mike Tyson is a violent rapist. Bothers me how little that gets brought up whenever he's hanging out on a Roganspehre podcast.

Kerena

How much of the "affirmative action" for women they talk about was just allowing women into a field? When Ruth Bader Ginsburg went to law school, she was the only woman in her class. When I went to law school in 2005, it was about 50-50. Law school admissions are pretty strictly based on LSAT scores. I guess I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a different LSAT score admission standard for Women? On a related note, I think there is some confusion on the status of affirmative action in the United States. Affirmative action is now almost entirely illegal. Quotas were outlawed in the 1970s and every other form that universities or employers tried to use has been struck down by the Supreme Court.

Kerena

The way Scott and Chris W veered from complaining about the number of women graduating college to discussing masculine and feminine roles was very sinister and very telling. It's just a problem that women are working, that's all we're talking about. The bloviating and handwringing about men's issues is a cover. The idea that a working mother is less of a mother is fucking preposterous. Yet that is the subtext of, "don't we want women to celebrate their nurturing side? To be allowed to be home makers? Isnt having a career turning you into an ugly harridan? " Working moms are still doing all of the home making, cleaning, scheduling the kids, getting them to activities, planning the birthday parties, cleaning up puke, staying home when they're sick, staying up all night breastfeeding when they're babies, and then going straight to work in the morning on no sleep. Who else do we think is doing this? Not dads, as Scott admits! (They're getting a solid 8 hrs and congratulating themselves on being so damn masculine while sweet wifey works through the night) Some of us are also the breadwinners on top of this. Most women I know make more money than their husbands, but also do the bulk of the childrearing. If I'm at work while my kid is at school, instead of home making muffins, it just means I'm making muffins when I get home! This isn't easy, but we prefer it because we can leave an abusive or undesirable situation whenever we feel like it and still provide for our children. We are not trapped in marriages, and I'm sensing this is an issue for the "men are falling behind" crowd.

Sonny

Oh my god the song!!! In the beginning! Brilliant hehe

Sonny

I thought at first it was some dumb intro music to Chris Williamson's show lmao

Lord Brannigan-7

Just imagine; Steve Irwin, Old Squeaky and an old Henry Hoover having dialogos in some sort of afterlife.

Matt Dear

That Bartlett intro, my god, what a bullshit merchant.

Emma

I found this episode very triggering!! But I don't actually think I have that much to add to the debate. I think Matt and Chris covered off almost everything I would have said in defence of my gender and why we are still sensitive about men claiming they are the ones being discriminated against. I am in my early 40s and I now work in government policy which is a pretty woke environment. However 20 years ago when I started my career in consulting, a way more bro-ey culture workplace sexism and also work place sexual harassment was out of control. Like just to name a few examples, I heard my first boss saying to another man that investing in young women is a waste of time because they are just going to run off and get pregnant. I witnessed and experienced mild groping from older male staff members directed to younger female staff members and I also witnessed HR not doing anything about it. I witnessed men performing way lower than me (objectively because in consulting everything related to productivity is measured and tracked) getting promoted over me. And ultimately it was blindingly obvious that women were being pushed out of the industry in their early 30s because of a sort of pre-emptive pregnancy discrimination which also happened to me. So trying to make out that women don't have the right to be pissed off about workplace discrimination which has been sooooooo bad in the living memory of most middle aged women is infuriating!

Sonny

Lol Matt has no patience for this guy. It's so funny. Really good episode

Heidi Sævareid

I really don't understand the idea that school is more suited to girls. It's not THAT long ago that advanced education was reserved for boys, and surely they were not teaching maths and Latin using jungle gyms, car chases and explosions back then?

Adam Sher

Enjoyed. Scott seems decent. 50 minutes left so it could change.

Salex

Guys, Dude, Bud, Mate - all inclusive in Australia. If I don't remember a name, any gender, any age, they are "Old Mate". I happen to be of the lady variety and I personally like Dude - it matches the vibes I'm trying to cultivate

Salex

Firstly, no one says "unalive" outside of the internet - that's some Boomer distortion. Secondly, most women care greatly about men's health, men's issues, men's safety, just like most men really, really truly care about women's health, women's issues, women's safety. It's a false dichotomy. Recent history has demonstrated supporting and uplifting women improves everyone's existence - educating women means families and communities are better off in all sorts of domains. Just as encouraging men to seek medical care more often means families and communities are better off. The emphasis may be different, but they aren't in competition. I agree that there is an unhelpful tendency to overgeneralise the danger of men to women, particularly in dating. And I personally think this is a way to control women's behaviour, rather than make us safer. PRObLEM Is... threats and actual harm from intimate partners are disproportionately men harming women. But again, it's not a competition for who is the most preyed upon here. Violence is violence and an issue that is in the interests of everyone involved to address.

Hot take: Assuming it still is, stop funding evo psych research on sex differences. It accomplishes nothing except making people think that it should have an impact on how woman and men are treated now as individuals, which is false. There is no such thing as "masculine" or "feminine" "energy." There is no meaning to "leaning into" your gendered "energy." Galloway acknowledged that men are perfectly capable of leaning into their feminine energy, by which he simply meant the stereotype of femininity-- being caring, nurturing, and empathetic. Saying this does not equate to a denial of science-- scientific sex differences are by definition generalizing, and in this case so generalizing that they are meant to apply to half the population (roughly) of the damn planet. That makes them absolutely useless as a basis for any kind of cultural movement or society action, generally. And before the "what about feminism" comes up, I said that scientific sex differences are no basis for a cultural movement-- but differences in how the sexes are treated are. I am 100% a feminist, and an intersectional one at that-- because there's no conflict in being opposed to bigoty of all stripes, whether it's classist, racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. as social phenomena that penalize populations on the basis of their membership in those categories (whether it's based on a belief in scientific difference or not). It's downright moronic to think that a program or symposium or whatever they were discussing that has components dedicated to correcting those kinds of social issues are somehow not serving men-- unless you think there are no men in any of those groups. Complaining that groups focusing on marginalized populations are not focusing on men, therefore, amounts to complaining that they're not focusing on privileged men-- men who don't fit into any of those groups. Oh no, we're not focusing on the interests of white straight Christian cis wealthy men specifically! That is the logical conclusion of what they're saying. It hurt my ears to listen to, it was so daft. Final point-- there is, it seems to me, a fundamental difference between saying a group of people make better doctors than they do entrepreneurs. A doctor treats afflictions that exist objectively, in spite of human efforts. An entrepreneur is successful because they are good at being influential. Influencing whom? Well other men, for the most part. So saying someone is a successful entrepreneur is, at its core, simply evaluating their ability to make other men give them money. :-D Whereas being a successful doctor means keeping other people alive.

Nina J.

It’s fascinating that manosphere folks like Chris Williamson never interrogate whether men’s declining performance in areas like education (relative to women) is due to some inherently lesser capacity on their part. I don’t think that’s likely to be the case, but I’m not someone who talks incessantly about how dodgy evo-psych concepts explain why women are naturally subservient, don’t do well in STEM sectors, aren’t fit for corporate or government leadership roles, are all secretly shallow gold diggers who want to be dominated, etc. etc. etc. These guys sure the fuck do, though! I wonder how they’d whinge their way out of being questioned on this inconsistency?

Electrician here , stop pretending you know our Culture Matthew. Or we'll turn your house off

Steve Pindsvine

Wow. As a neuro-divergent woman who spent years role playing what I thought a woman was supposed to be, that was a very uncomfortable listen and now I feel sad 😥 Also the bullshit about 'boss bitches' or whatever just isn't true. Women are constantly punished for being too aggressive or too ambitious, and this wasn't even picked up on. Maybe I'll skip Part 2.
