I know people don’t like hearing someone complain about their job, but lately I’ve been feeling a bit insecure and wanted to share it with you. I’m not sure if it’s showing in my art, but it’s been on my mind.

I’m really thankful for all of you who like and support my work — I don’t say this enough, but you make it possible for me to do what I love.

That said, there are some tough aspects. It can feel lonely sometimes, and it’s hard to keep perspective. I’m always trying to balance what I want to create with what people want to see. And there’s that constant fear that it could all disappear — maybe the internet decides to cancel me one day, or platforms change their rules again, you know, censorship. I know no job is truly secure, but the uncertainty still makes me anxious.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve struggled with confidence and self-worth. I think it’s something that happens when you get better at your work and wiser as a person — you start to see more of what you don’t know. (Maybe that’s what they call the Dunning–Kruger effect?) I’ve been working on building back my confidence, reconnecting with my creativity, and remembering the joy of making and sharing my art.

Thanks for being here with me through it all. And here’s a preview of my latest work.

I can assure you that your art is top notch and world class. The censorship BS that the corpos are enforcing is the scary shit we all should be fighting. Threat of job insecurity, especially as big as this, can mess up anyone's perception.

Albron

Yes, I can totally relate to your feelings. I'm facing sometimes the same emotions... And the censorship is very real on social media. So yes, it can create anxiety and then, it's hard to be focused on work and creativity. Your work is fantastic and I know you'll always get the feedbacks you deserve. 👍🥰

Firstly thank you for being so honest with your feelings - it’s very much appreciated in a world we’re being hide their insecurities under bravado. It’s inspiring for the rest of us to see such truth. Secondly - your art work and out put is nothing short of miraculous, beautiful, inspiring and uplifting. I can only imagine the insecurities you face in the world today and the battle between being true to your aesthetic and your fans wants and demands. I would say “you do you” and keep doing what you’re doing. We love it and we love you! Insecurity is such a strange thing - often present in those who have no true reason for it and lacking in those who could do with a healthy dose. It can drive us forwards or crush us beneath it. Don’t let it do the latter. If you need validation from time to time turn to us your fans. We will give it you in heaps with love. Your work is chefs kiss astounding. Top notch spectacular. There no need to fear. You’re a genius - and when you can’t see it or believe it trust our judgement. We know great art when we see it. In love and truth EC

Hi 😊 First thing first: your art work is amazing!!! 🔥🔥🔥 is variated, has feeling and is nothing else like Ulric and Wey ! There’s also normal to feel insecure but, regardless of what platform u use or what changes that they may come with, people like me that follows your work for years, will follow you further. Support too. 😊 So keep up the good work, let tomorrow worry for tomorrow. 😉

Decebal Iacobai

Thank you for having the courage to share your feeling with us! I really like your work a lot. My boyfriend and I actually find yourselves in Ulric and Wey. I used to look at your work and dream and I was stunned to find myself in a similar relationship. It was strange and It kind of helped me get over the age difference. I think you are awesome and I want to thank you for being you and for your art. Sometimes life imitates art.

This must be that Mercury in retrograde everyone keeps talking about, but you’re the third majorly talented and skilled artist I see struggling with this in the past couple of weeks. You are an amazing artist. Your work is something that I study from time to time to make my sketches better because every time you share a daily sketch or a finished piece I go “How the fuck did he do that with his hands, holy shit” and I genuinely learn from you. I know it can be extremely hard to take a step back and see your work through other people’s eyes, but I wish to convey at least some level of appreciation and respect I have for what you do. Your insecurities are not showing in your art, it’s in your head, you’re good. Can’t say much about the security aspect considering all the latest developments with payment systems and pro-censorship groups, that’s a very real and scary threat that the community needs to fight against and some wins have actually already taken place and quickly, if that’s of any reassurance to you. Unless you’re a genuine piece of shit of a person, you don’t need to worry about “internet cancelling” you either Please feel free to express yourself the way you want to - be it by reaching out like this or through your art, it’s all welcome

Zach

Your art is getting better and better and your vision as an artist has grown. If you are feeling unfounded anxiety, you may find that it's due to external or medical reasons. Don't be afraid to get checked out...even just for peace of mind.

Applepie789

Don’t be afraid to take a break if you need to. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mental health is to step away from the tablet, go outside and smell the roses. Also, if you feel you need to talk to someone, booking a session with a therapist is always beneficial. Your journey as an artist continues to grow more and more every day, and your work has only gotten better with time. If you ever feel stuck or insecure, maybe you could collaborate with other artists or even start commissions?

Don Kohler

In think the reason your art work is so valuable to us is the emotion that your figures show through their faces. It’s undeniable and ever present. Thank you.

Cesar Gonzalez

Thank you for everything that you create and share with us! Your art is a gift but remember that you should always put your own well being and care first!

Allan Foo

Thank for sharing!😉 Take care!🙏

Dear Silverjow, your work is amazing! We, your fans, enjoy the art you create tremendously. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us, but please know that we think so highly of you and your wonderful, inspirational drawings! Much love to you.

Roberto Quintero

Dear friend, I understand that feeling, and I tell you, don't let it get to you. You're a role model for many of us, and even if the internet and social media change with their rules, we'll always be there to find you so we can continue to appreciate your wonderful work.

Jw84

Silverjow, your work is very much valued and appreciated. We all get teased or picked on once in a while, push through it and be patient. Its not arrogant to think the worlds problems are not your own. Sometimes everyone else is having a bad day and they leave it at your feet. Its not you. Ignore it for a while see if things get better and don't dwell on it. Everything doesn't have to be settled in a few minutes or day. Leave time for yourself to just be.

IXE-13

Silverjow, your art is incredible. Your technique is simply amazing and you create images showing the dream. Yes they are very sensual but also very human. I see love here. Those men do have beautiful huge muscles, but they also have eyes and attitudes revealing tenderness. Perfection !

Scott Swanson

If your art is also the way you earn your living, it can be complicated to balance what you wish to offer and what your patrons hope to see. Since you are an artist, I hope you will find in yourself the confidence to post, at least much of the time, what you yourself wish to create. You can see from all the other comments that what you bring forth from inside yourself means a great deal to your patrons.

G C

Dear Silverjow- I am sorry that you are struggling. One of the best antidotes to loneliness is connection. You can connect in many ways such as doing a Facebook or Instagram Live, sending out polls for reassurance about a particular direction you're taking or getting ideas for future work, collaborations with other artists, and seeking feedback and reassurance like this post has done. Your work is fantastic and meaningful. It shows the various ways that life is lived as gay men. As other commentors have noted, homophobia is on the rise. It is therefore super important that your work highlights the normalcy and non-heteronormative ways that gay men live their lives. Reach out periodically to engage with your fans, because we are all here to support you! Sending you many hugs!

Colin Dwyer

You are soooo talented and that's something very few people can truly say. No one can take that from you. Your art brings me so much joy.

Craig West

Some of the best art has been made on the topic of how much the artist hates doing it. " I'm not going to write you a love song" by Sara Bareilles is about how annoyed she felt at having to write a love song as part of her contract. And it was huge. We are all human beings and we all feel inadequate sometimes. And it's usually completely unfounded. Just know that we love you and your work and we, also, are human beings sometimes.💕

Eli M

I think that you are the best at what you do. When you chose to reference me in your are it was the greatest compliment I had ever received. What art brings you the most joy? Tag it. You may be surprised the response. If your lonely reach out. More people will reach back than you think. 🩵

from one creator to another (and take this with a pinch of salt! there are lots of opinions out there) Re: what you want vs what people want - I know this feeling. there are some kinds of art that pay more/ get more likes/etc because they connect to more people in a way that others don't. I write genre fiction (books) and it can be a challenge whenever what I want isn't the same as what most other people want (and "most other people" is where the income comes from). my way of dealing with it is just to put extra hours into "what I want", on top of the hours going into the regular income projects. But as much as possible, I also make the "income projects" something I enjoy, in a way that I can do so for another 20+ "more of the same" projects because that is what keeps people coming back for more (and that means a steady income) But please be aware of burnout risk!! There is always that, and burnout is difficult to recover from. Re: platforms - in my circles we have newsletters to connect with fans. Like, when you collect fans' email addresses so you have a way to reach them that is not patreon, just in case. (there are subscription sites, etc out there, but changing platforms will always be a huge pain) Mostly, I have backup plans for stuff like that, just in case. (also, have you considered selling art prints of your work? it's an income option, anyway) to me, your work is very professional and I honestly don't know how else you can improve, it's just that good. What makes me smile though, are your drawings of Ulric and Wei - they remind me of my late husband - and is the main reason why I'm a patron, to get those little reminders in my inbox of their domesticity and love. I hope you'll manage to find yourself in a better headspace!! All the best!

SP7TR3

I look forward to the beginning of each month because of your updates! I think your work is phenomenal!

robert dean

Your art is full of character, sincerity, sensuality and yes, love. I so look forward to all your messages and the advancement in your craft. You mean so much to so many.,so please don't forget that. All artists struggle with confidence,(it comes with the territory). We support you in your endeavours and champion your growth.

RLJohnston

Your artwork is fantastic and you are a very talented artist. I look forward to seeing all of your posts and I wish you the very best as you work through your issues. And please don't be afraid to reach out for help. You are so well-thought-of and appreciated!

If you're worried that certain platforms might cancel you at some point, it might be a good idea to build your own website. I feel like censorship is on the rise, so it's probably a good idea to become at least a little more independent from others. As far as creativity goes, over time I've also had the feeling that you used to be a little more confident, free, and crazy in what you painted. I think some people don't even know what they really want themselves, and if you surprise them in a positive way, you can also develop yourself further instead of always serving a limited market. And: Quality is more important than quantity. Feel free to break out of your usual pattern; it doesn't always have to be 4 Hunks of the Week and 3 other major works of art.

Gilgamesh

I agree with alot of comments here basically I would try and future proof censorship by building your own website and creating a mailing list. remember patreon is just a middle man in direct to consumer marketing. they aren't doing anything you cant do. start slow but start NOW! as for what the community wants versus what you want... well, just ask us! nothing is stopping you from giving a poll of different ideas and seeing what clicks or asking for ideas from your fanbase. your not held to it, your just asking for ideas. lol, heck! I randomly asked if you ever thought of age swapping wei and Ulrich one day and you just did it as a quick sketch! and people liked it! so you did a couple more! your quick sketches should be the area to play around and try new ideas quickly, put a poll up with ideas to help guide you and see what you like and people respond to, and lastly your developed paintings are what works. so you get more fan engagement, you get to experiment more, and both parties are happy 😊.

Joe Adams

Always brave to share your feelings. I don’t have anything to say that hasn’t already been said. Love your art, love seeing it, and showing it to my boyfriend. Have a project to get some printed and framed but it’s all too good to pick just a few…

mwn

you have an eye and vision for your work that is an outlier in all the best ways, you are on a league of your own

Zanjoe

If you’ve stuck with Silverjow from the start many of you know he lives in a country in sourheast Asia that is very anti-LGBT so his art is literally under the gun, would be blocked and would get him in legal trouble. Patreon IS his ONLY go around these restrictions. Those of us who say start a website have the luxury of living in OUR FREE SOCIETIES. This talented man is stymied literally by where he lives. His art can be prosecuted as “obscene” in these countries and that includes the so-called most “pro-Western” country in the region, Singapore. Anyone heard of onlyfans creator Titus Low? I hope we just keep supporting his art and pray for his continuing success.

GabbyGato

As an artist that's out of practice, I remember how drawing was a sense of relief but also stress, especially with new things where I pushed my limits. Although I've changed professions, I still get the feelings of imposter syndrome, not feeling good enough. However, I try to remember that life it about learning. The project that missed the mark is important. Without it, I could not get better. Keep on keeping on.

Ricardo Yorsh

As an art and drawing teacher I have to say that you have a gift. You make things simple, that maybe can be seen complicated by others. The way you analyze reality of human body and clothes is outstanding. You draw the exact line in the right place with the correct intensity. And the way you create volume is what keeps me here too. What is he going to show us next month? We all have doubts in terms of art. You are able to show emotions through your drawings... Because your souls is full of them, even the negative ones, you give us humanity in your work. Keep it up, amigo mío!!! You are a master!!

Tristian

Your art is & always has been amazing & very precise. I still can’t figure out how you can draw the same guys the same way every time but in completely different scenarios. I would love to learn from you so to think you’re ever doubtful is insanity to me. I follow maaany artists & your work has stood out ever since the beginning. So yea… stop w/ the doubt. You are in the top 1% of artists, you will always have support!

Thomas Polk

Love is the Law; stay in your Heart, Love yourself, Love your art and Love those who return that Love and support. This is the essence of Spirit; it will handle the remainder.

Terry Proto

I think you nailed it yourself: the better you get, the more clearly you see what you don’t know. And that’s the thing — you are one of the best. I’ve been following your work for years and to this day, I'm a huge fan. Sometimes I go back to your older pieces and it blows me away how far you’ve come, while keeping such a distinctive and powerful style. On a more personal note — I’m a big muscle guy myself (5’10, 250), and my ex is a 6’4 silverfox Beast, 300lbs, 11 years older. We’re both huge fans of your Ulric and Wei series. You're so spot on that at times we were joking that you probably had spy cameras in our house. You're one of the few artists that give life to a positive image of homosexuality that's confident, wildly sexy and somehow grounded too. You set a very inspiring example for us all to strive for. That's extremely rare and precious. In one sentence: Keep up your excellent work, you’re doing great!

Jeffrey Vance

You are one of the most important queer artists there is - your work has spanned the *world* and I look forward to it every single day. 💖💖 please keep gifting us with such a beautiful representation of ourselves
