Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay. I sent Barely Working for review on Steam and they told me that we can't release adult games on Steam as early access anymore.

This is partially my fault, I thought I sent Barely Working in for review a year ago, back when I first made the Steam page but apparently I didn't. I do not wish to release Barely Working on Steam without early access so we are going to have to delay the Steam release :(

One-Time Purchase

We are going to be selling Barely Working early access on Patreon as a one-time purchase of $14.99 on September 19th, 12pm PT. Patreon recently allowed selling products / posts on their platform so this is our best choice to use since we cannot use itch and Steam.

Good news is that people no longer have to be a subscriber to purchase Barely Working because you will be able to purchase the game as a one-time payment right here on Patreon.

People who purchase the game will receive updates, you will just have to redownload the game when there is an update from the same Patreon post.

Below is an example of buying Queen's Brothel on our Patreon page.

The $4 Patron tier will still have access to everything because we value users who stick around with us for long periods of time.

Barely Working Release Dates

We are releasing Barely Working as early access on September 19th, 12pm PT, on Patreon for $14.99.

We are releasing Barely Working full release hopefully in December of 2025, on Steam, Patreon and hopefully itch for $19.99.

Conclusion

It is really unfortunate that payment processors are causing this to happen to the adult game community, but we will get through this! If you have any questions please leave a comment or send us a message on Discord!

Hey DP! Well this sucks... I feared this would happen but i thought Gabe would be well Gabe and tell them to take a hike but i get it Steam has to get their money somehow as well but as i'm sure eventually Gabe Newell will tell MasterCard, Visa and Co. to pound sand and come up with something himself. Look at what Valve did with Linux! Using Proton you can now play 90% of Windows games on Linux without any hassle, i remember the good old days when you had to fiddle around for days to get a game to install using wine and then find out that it doesn't work lol Yeah i know i'm an old fart ;) But i get it for small creators like you the current situation is fubar but as you said it might take some time but everything will sort itself out :) Keep up the great work!

Yeah honestly I still have high hopes for Gabe to fight back, it's just not going to work out as of right now so this is our alternative. I'm a big fan of the Steam Deck and proton is amazing. What distro do you use? I wanted to try using Linux as my main PC and use GPU passthrough if I ever need Windows (Adobe products, some multiplayer games) I used to use Mint (great) back in 2017 and I've tried CachyOS but it didn't feel stable enough for me.

My first baby steps were with Debian before i plunged in and when i really started off with linux i used Gentoo (the learning curve was well steep but fuck i learned alot of things about linux during that time ;)) but it got a hassle when you have to let your computer run over night just to update your software because compiling chromium or firefox took hours lol Now i am a very happy Fedora user. It is VERY bleeding edge (i especially remarked that during the update to Fedora 42, which was a bit tricky because Wayland is still not as stable as ppl say it is but this was the first time i ran into such issues but as i mentioned i am no shy to work with the console so i figured out the problem quite fast and was able to fix things and since then everything works like a charm again), so if you want to try linux again on your workstation i suggest to use Fedora. :)

DPMaker

That sounds like a very fun history! I'll gladly try Fedora next, thank you. I am a little scared of Wayland because I ran into some visual bugs in CachyOS. I'll try Fedora for a while and see what happens!

One thing i wanted to add: Be aware that you need two graphicscards if you want to run Windws in a VM. If you don't plan on gaming on linux you can use the igpu of the cpu and use the "real" one for the GPU-passthrough. Have you checked the winedb concerning the Adobe-stuff you are using? Because with newer versions of wine it should be possible to run software which use directx10+ using wine as well (or you could tinker and get them to run with proton) so maybe you don't need windows any more like myself. I still have windows-installations but i don't use them any more as i can play everything i want to on linux now :)

DPMaker

Yes I'm aware I'll need two graphics cards. I actually set up single gpu passthrough for fun not too long ago, it was very cool! And sure I'll try it out and see if i can get Adobe working
