I found the perfect place to sit and wait for you.

The corridor was quiet, warm afternoon light spilling through the windows, and I could hear your footsteps long before you appeared. I pretended not to notice at first. Just crossed my legs, smoothed my dress and stared innocently down the hallway.

Then you came around the corner.

I looked straight at you.

That was the moment you stopped walking.

I know that look. The tiny hesitation when you’re trying to decide whether I’m sitting here by coincidence or whether I’ve deliberately put myself somewhere you couldn’t possibly walk past without noticing me.

So I let you wonder.

I didn’t smile. That would have made things far too easy. Instead, I held your gaze for a few seconds longer than necessary, tilted my head slightly and watched you trying very hard to behave normally.

Poor thing.

You really should know me better by now.

I didn’t choose this dress by accident. I didn’t choose this seat by accident. And I certainly didn’t wait until I heard you coming before crossing my legs like this by accident.

But I’m not going to tell you what happens next.

You’ll have to come a little closer for that.
