Fun fact: A Legend Revealed episode was not only the first introduction of the Bruce Falcnor score but because the episodes were never actually dubbed in order sequence (it was always random It's still like this today for many cases) This was also the very first time all the Funimation Dubbed actors worked on Dragon Ball Z during this episode. You can actually tell the Voice acting is a little unpolished and stiff compared to earlier episodes because the earlier episodes was voice acted much later before they started airing them on TV.

I cant lie it is very jarring that you can see how the voice actors are not experienced in the middle of this arc because it was the first stuff they ever dubbed after taking over from the ocean dub cast, another reason i think kai shits on z

2026-09-07 02:00 Holden I hope this is not asking for too much, but for the Holden Cut Is it possible after Dragon Ball Z episode 85, to switch over to Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 42 till episode 53 ,this is for just the remainder of the Namek Saga? I suggest this because, during this particular section of the Namek Saga, Goku’s dialogue and characterisation in the original English dub of Dragon Ball Z deviate quite significantly from his actual character. He is written much more like Superman, which could potentially give Jen the wrong impression of who Goku is. More generally, the original English dub’s script deviates quite heavily from the original Japanese script during this part of the Namek Saga. This is particularly noticeable with Goku’s dialogue, Vegeta’s speech, and the way Vegeta’s history with Frieza and the Saiyans is presented, which also leads to Vegeta being somewhat mischaracterized. Sean Schemmel also gives one of his best performances as Goku during this section in Kai. There is a night-and-day difference between his performance in the original English dub and his performance in Kai when comparing this particular part of the story.

It may have been that early it wasn't until this episode where you start hearing the more iconic sound track. The episode i mentioned you definitely can tell the difference between the 2 scores.

Just purchased the collection, couldn’t resist 🤪. So happy to rewatch this with you both. I also started with DBZ first when I was like 9 as that’s what we got on Toonami in the UK. I also can’t wait till we get to the Cell Saga as that’s when my crush enters the scene 🗡️🫣, and yes 9 year old me’s first crush was an anime character lol 😝 .

The first episode of this set is the episode where the episodes stopped and started over when it originally aired here. It was so infuriating making it to that episode again, just for it all to start over. Luckily, they started selling the VHS tapes that continued the story at stores in the mall like FYE.

Holden, I know this is a long way off, but when you get to the Kid Buu saga please explain that the “he’s twice as strong as he was before” lines are wrong. I’m watching another creator’s reaction to this series and his girlfriend is understandably confused why SSJ3 Goku is able to fight Kid Buu when they needed Vegito to fight Buuhan. Yet Kid Buu is “twice as strong” according to the dialogue and somehow SSJ3 Goku alone can fight him. All versions of Super Buu are stronger than Kid Buu. Kid Buu and Fat Buu are pretty close in power I think with Kid Buu being slightly stronger. It’s just one of those dubisms that I look past since I love this Faulconer version so much. But I forget new people don’t know that and even some long term fans don’t even know it either. Just throwing it out there. Love the reactions!

well i disagree, i think the fact that if they watched kai theyd be literally in the android saga right now proves by kai is better. and i think gokus voice remains rough for the next 30 episodes or so because sean was still trying to do the "hero" supermany voice
