yeah, you were spoiled by AOT and Vinland and most of Death Note but Japan and its media can be SUPER racist (among other things) much like Europe and America except more old school. Also, did anyone here watch death note live?? lol im 23, i don't know anyone who saw this as it came out.

A REALLY good anime that asks the philosophical questions about capital punishment, criminals rights and surveillance state is PsychoPass. I would consider it to be better than Death Note . i heavily implore you to watch it in your time. True hidden gem.

Hack Strike

In the manga this part of the story is as long as the L part, but in the anime they made it only 1/3 of the anime, so its just a lot more rushed then it should be

Peak recommendation, psycho pass is probably one of the best animes for a watch along aswell considering how thought provoking and morally challenging it is

One thing about anime is that sometimes you just have to ignore the antiblackness and keep it pushing

I like that they're like sort of managing to continue this L-style of investigation through Near, whilst also giving us something new, exciting and more dangerous with Mello, but it does feel way too much like we're just starting over. I 100% agree with the direction they took when they allowed L to "solve" the Kira case before killing him, but it makes it so that all of Near and Mello's discoveries are a little boring. Like yeah its cool to hear them make these deductions, but L already solved the whole damn thing.

I believe Near was questioning why Mello would leave his picture at the institution if he was planning to investigate Kira, since they both probably figured out that Kira can kill with just a face. L and Near have presumably wiped all traces of their connection to the institution, so it's a little weird for Mello to not do the same.
