Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy my detailed psychological analysis of episodes 7- 8 of Avatar: The Last Airbender! These are the first 2-parters that I reacted to, and it makes perfect sense why they are meant to be watched together. What a yapping goldmine!!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) I love the Hei Bai (黑白) spirit, given the cultural influence of Korean and Chinese backgrounds; as you all saw, I was initially thinking of a potential black-and-white tiger spirit, the guardian spirit of Korean culture, but fitting that the Hei Bai spirit is a panda panda

2) Anger is often a protector of grief and fear; as I mentioned, fear is the primary emotion of humans, and anger is a secondary emotion often in response to fear; fear of loss of control

3) Courage is not about confidence; it is doing it anyway despite being scared

4) I cannot get over the creators' savagery to make the Sozin's Comet's return by the end of the summer, as if Aang does not have enough responsibilities or burden of ownership already

Also, can we talk about how powerful Avatars are at their full capacity?? I cannot believe Avatar Roku wielded the natural power of lava...Like what?! No wonder they can restore the balance of the world; also, equally crazy that the Fire Lord can extract the power of a comet!

See you next weekend :)

"we only experienced imposter syndrome if we care deeply" i was going through something the last couple days, but this sentence made me realized what it was... thank you for that

Symbolic Remnant

“Roku” is Japanese for “Six.” but there’s no guarantee that’s what it means in Roku’s case. Here we get the full magnitude of our stakes for the series. 9ish months (from Start of Winter to End of Summer) to master 3 Elements and defeat the Fire Lord.

very nice. i am loving your insights and reactions. i can't wait for you to get to the rest of the series. thanks for the video.

Hahaha I loved you creating a whole theory about Iroh shadowbending and then it just shows his sandal left behind 😂 premature pause ahaha. But you are right, Uncle is OP. You haven't seen anything yet. Same with the Avatar powers in general. Aang literally woke up to a century long war, and now has to end it within less than a year. I think my biggest concern at age 12 was puberty 😂 poor Aang man!! I do love you analyzing Zuko's character, and how he is very intelligent, but he continues to make stupid decisions because he is blinded by his goal. His desperation and drive to achieve it many times outweighs his rationale, like attacking the Water Tribe or Kyoshi Village, storming a blockade in threat of becoming a prisoner. It's not that he's malicious to innocent people necessarily, but he will knock anyone down who gets in his way, and is uncaring about the consequences of his actions towards innocent people, which is still bad. TBH he really is like the 2nd MC in this show. The parallels between him and Aang are growing. I can't wait for you to discover more as the show goes on. It really does just keep getting better and better from here.

these reactions just keep making me more and more excited for other characters to come and their arcs... yes! they can bend lava.... and more ;)

since this was the winter solstice, aang actually has only about 8 months 😭

That final shot of the full moon both Katara and Sokka embrace Aang. I think Aang told them about that he has to master all elements and face the fire lord before summers end and I think both of them realized the weight of his resposibility right then and there and how tough it is gonna be. I mean the last few weeks in there world they been seeing this kid they know has this huge resposibility. But both probably though in a couple years this will be over. Now they are thinking, within the next year this kid gonna kick one of the most powerful men in the worlds ass or we lose

Cannot wait for your ep 12 reaction!

I imagine the sounds characters make while fighting is emulating kiai, which are performed in japanese martial arts. They worked with real martial artists to choreograph the fights of the series, so they drew a lot of inspiration from karate and kung fu. In paticular, Sifu Kisu worked closely with the creators to develop different fighting styles for the different cultures and characters.

Maybe this is just me, but from episode one I have gotten major Monkey King vibes from Aang.

I love the symbolism of the setting sun like an ending of an era, and full moon of reflection.

I'm so glad you noticed that uncle iron can see the dragon. Unfortunately we know the reason why until book 3 😔
