The thing with Koby, imo, he started from so much further "behind" on his dream than someone like Luffy. Koby also saw as early as episode 2 that there is injustice in the Marines, and here he is in the middle of war and he's standing up against Admiral Akainu for what he believes. I liken Koby's dream as similar to Usopp's, Koby wants to be a great Marine and in that moment he "reached" his goal whether he believes it or not

Not a spoiler, just clarification for Sengoku. He isn’t in charge of the world government. He is just in charge of the Navy. The world government is run by the celestial dragons and specifically the five elders you have only seen in a few short clips.

nah bc it really is pain fr. like talking about luffy in general: "that's my captain he so tuff i'm on this ship till the very end 💪 😮‍💨" vs talking about luffy anywhere from sabadoy to marineford: "that's my boyyyyyy that's my lil baby boy fr like that acc my son it hurts to see him in such distress more than any words could ever describe 😢😢"

Bro you need to see some of these scenes in dub. I'm talking: "the one piece is real", lufy waking up and talking to jimbei, "i want to live" one pace is great but somtimes i miss the little things in one piece (for better or worse yes ik the pacing is doodoo dogshit)

***V MILD SPOILERS*** also oda's writing of the navy as the primary antagonist group of the story is very tonally different pre and post timeskip and marineford is where we start to see that change from yakuza/mafia style to a commentary of traditionalism and office culture really starts around here with sengoku - head of the whole navy - forced to bend the knee to his higher-ups. if you take a look the 3 admirals they all represent one way of getting stuck in the cogs that is work culture and garp especially reflects the individualism vs collectivism the-nail-that-sticks-out-gets-hammered-down angle to a flipping T

I feel that. The Heat and Humidity lol. It’s been rough lately. What’s been helpful to me lately is using vent covers that direct air better and a dehumidifier running in conjunction with the A/C. I really appreciate these reactions to One Piece, as it gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week working out in this convection oven!

sengoku to me feels like a man who joined the marines with bright eyes and and a dream to make the world a better place, but then over time just got ground down by the corruption and started making compromises, and those compromises led to more compromises until he became part of the corruption, but even after that some of his dream of making the world a better place is still left

I'm watching one piece at your pace lol Imo sengokus point on the marines is that he will let go and let happen as many shady things from the marines as long as citizens are safe in an unnecesary way, only citizens, because they are by far the ones out of the picture, i'd probably put garp there too, just that he cares more so about his family too

Like getting into a position of power is a good ministry to get into if you have that talent, but just having that position and find out darkness got its ugly fingers in every thing is wild and one has to make the conscious decision on whether to save everything or let everything be destroyed

I mean, Sengoku's a fleet admiral. But you already know about the World Government and the Celestial Dragons, Enoki. That's what Warlord Doflamingo was getting out. It came from the groups that the Navy exists to serve. Sengoku's not the top of the food chain - he answers directly to the officials who run the World Government.

She was literally saying that she thought Sengoku was the guy highest up, suggesting she thought the buck stopped with him. People are just pointing out that he's not and it doesn't. She doesn't seem to be thinking about the World Government in that moment and that's all people are trying to do is remind her that the Navy isn't the power in the world but that it directly serves the WG.

Also, I really wish you would take the time to listen to people who are pointing out that you are missing A LOT of critically important details from refusing to watch the original anime and insisting on One Pace. You're cheating yourself for no good reason. And I'm also in the camp that wishes you would give the dub a chance. You seriously missed out on hearing Whitebeard yell "The One Piece is real" which lands a LOT harder in the dub than in the subtitles. You've already missed so many fantastically delivered dubbed lines that are genuinely great.

Someone mentioned the idea of a One Piece spinoff series, covering the lives, adventures, and relationship of Garp and Sengoku. In a world of black and white, they are sooooo gray. As viewers, we see a bunch of the black n white ourselves. The Strawhat Pirates, for example, are the pinnacle of good guys. They always help, and do everything they can for the right reasons. So good. And do you remember that time they rolled up to a new area and their actions didn't destroy half of the city/island, displace leadership, and completely abolish the current state of life as everybody there had come to know it before leaving with no transition plan in place? Yeah, me neither.

They shouted several encouraging messages, but you only paused and repeated that single one. It translates to "Hang in there, Strawhat!", the very same phrase Bon Clay screamed until his throat was bleeding from exertion.

I think its also very telling that Luffy so far punched and beat up most of the problems that showed up. Corrupt dude? Beat him up. Friends are sick? Drag them to the top of a mountain and get them help. Ace dying though? That isnt a problem that can be punched or physically overcome. Its probably up until this point that we the audience have seen is the first problem that cant just be beaten up
